2024 Fiano SOLD OUT (Club Prices: Affinity $26.40 Kinship $28.05)

All reports coming in from the BOM in winter 2023 was an end to La Niña and a possible El Niño. We had just come through an unusual period of 3 consecutive cooler, wetter years and looking forward to some dry weather. What we ended up with was another wet cool year, don’t get me wrong, at Sanguine we treasure the fantastic wines that evolve from these cooler seasons it’s just a lot of extra work and stress in the vineyards. After a prolonged cool and wet period through October to January, summer decided to show up just in time for ripening. This extra heat and sunshine coupled with happy healthy vines brought harvest on quickly. Every variety in the vineyard was ready to harvest all at once making a big vintage chaotic. We started and finished in March.

With the late burst of heat and sunshine every variety needed to harvested in a short period of time putting the winemaker (me) at breaking point. Our new planting of Verdejo, Nebbiolo, Lagrein and Grenache looked great for their first harvest, add to that Fiano from north Heathcote, a new dessert wine and a sparkling rose to add to the portfolio made for to a fast paced vintage. With all honesty I was glad it was over but in the process of getting Fiano, Verdejo, Chardonnay and Rosé to bottle I’m getting really excited about the 2024 wines. Everything looks fresh, bright and balanced so keep an eye out for the 2024 vintage wines from Heathcote.
