Sustainability Statement

Sanguine Estate Sustainability & Environmental Commitment
At Sanguine Estate, sustainability is not just a goal—it’s a guiding principle. As custodians of ancient Cambrian soils and a family legacy dating back to the 1860s, we are committed to preserving the land, reducing our environmental footprint, and crafting wines with care and conscience.

What We've Achieved
Organic Vineyard Practices
- 95% of our vineyard is managed organically, with the remaining 5% (new plantings) transitioning by 2024.
- We use organic fertilizers and preventative organic sprays to manage disease and mildew.
Water Conservation
- Currently 100% of our water needs are met through rainwater collected in catchment dams and tanks.
Waste Repurposing
- All vineyard prunings and grape skins (grape mark) are mulched and reused under vine to suppress weeds.
- Liquid waste is treated with microbes and used for garden irrigation.
- Retired barrels are repurposed into furniture and garden planters.
Recycling & Reuse
- Wine packaging materials (cardboard, bottles, corks, screw caps) are recycled or repurposed.
- Wooden and plastic pallets are reused or repurposed for construction.
- Plastic and cardboard dividers are reused or returned to suppliers.

Current Projects Underway
Solar Power Transition
- We're working toward powering all operations with renewable energy. Solar panels are installed, and solutions are being explored to optimize performance with our new cellar door.
Eco-Friendly Packaging
- Transitioning to lighter weight wine bottles and recyclable brown gift boxes.
- Moving toward digital menus and tasting notes to reduce paper use.
Carbon Footprint Offsetting
- Initiatives include tree planting, carbon capture in vineyard mid-rows, and sheep grazing to reduce soil disturbance.
Innovative Recycling
- Exploring compostable plastic wraps for winery inputs.
