Tasting Notes
An interesting orange/red colour, perfumed floral and sweet fruity aromatics, fresh and light. The palate has fresh acidity with up front fruit but a dry subtle finish. Very refreshing but has nice complexity to keep you intrigued.
Vintage Overview
The 2011 vintage was the most challenging to date. Throughout 2011 growing season we experienced cool humid weather and large rain events that produced large canopys and excessive crops. At Sanguine we decided early in the season to hedge the canopy and expose the fruit to the sun. This helped avoid the spread of mildew and helped ripen the fruit. Beacuse of the continued rainfall we had to repeat this process in parts of the vineyard, which was alot of work. All the fruit at Sanguine was harvested throughout April, with good luck we avoided some of the heavy rainfall plaguing other regions during this month, and managed to harvest great quality fruit with low alcohol and spring cool climate character. Great fun in the winery, no fun in the vineyard.
Winemaking
This Rose was made by taking grape juice from Shiraz grapes immediately after crushing before much colour has been extracted from the skins. This results in an orange/red coloured wine. This juice is transferred to old French oak barrels to naturally ferment and to mature for 6 months before bottling.
